St Johns Primary School, Coalisland, Dungannon

Principals Welcome

Welcome to St. John's Primary School, Kingsisland.

At St. John's, the values of Catholic education are evident in every aspect of school life. Our faith guides everything we do and reminds us that every child is a unique gift from God, deserving of love, respect and the opportunity to flourish.

Our vision is simple yet powerful:

"Where Learning Begins with Knowing Every Child... By Name, By Nature, By Heart."

These words are far more than a vision statement displayed on a wall. They shape every decision we make and every relationship we build. We believe that children achieve their very best when they know they are loved, valued and understood.

Our primary aim is not simply to educate children, but to ensure they are happy, confident and excited to come to school every morning. If a child walks through our doors smiling, feeling safe and knowing they belong, then we have already taken the first important step towards successful learning.

Every child at St. John's is special. Each has their own unique personality, talents and aspirations. We strive to nurture these individual gifts by providing the highest quality learning experiences and encouraging every child to fulfil their full potential. We expect every child to work to the very best of their ability, remembering our school motto:

"I will always try my best."

At St. John's, learning extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom. We are incredibly proud of our outstanding school environment. Following the completion of our beautiful new school, our pupils now enjoy bright, modern classrooms, exceptional learning spaces and facilities that provide the very best setting for learning and personal development.

Our extensive outdoor environment is the beating heart of Kingsisland. We firmly believe that children learn best when enjoying play, exploration and physical activity. Our pupils enjoy a state of the art playground filled with exciting opportunities for imaginative play, challenge and adventure, alongside our outdoor learning areas, vegetable gardens and nature spaces.

Every sport, and in particular all aspects of GAA, plays a huge role in life at St. John's. Our pupils have access to the very best, first-class facilities, including three professionally installed 3G pitches, hard surface games areas, grass pitches and a spacious indoor sports hall. These facilities allow children of all abilities to develop healthy lifestyles, build confidence, enjoy teamwork and experience success both during the school day and through our extensive programme of extracurricular activities.

Technology is another area in which we continually invest. We place a major emphasis on integrating Information and Communication Technology throughout the curriculum, ensuring our children develop the digital skills required for the future. We have a dedicated ICT suite with 35 computers which is used extensively by each class and also every morning in our ICT club. Our classrooms are equipped with the latest interactive technology, pupils have access to an extensive range of iPads and Apple devices, and technology is used creatively every day to enhance teaching and learning. We are extremely proud to have been recognised as the Capita Northern Ireland ICT Excellence Winners, reflecting our commitment to preparing children for an ever-changing world.

Alongside academic excellence, we are immensely proud of our rich traditions in music, drama and the performing arts. Every child is encouraged to participate, discover their talents and experience success. Whether performing on stage, representing the school on the sports field or taking part in one of our many clubs and activities, every child has the opportunity to shine.

However, buildings, facilities and resources alone do not make a great school.

Our greatest strength has always been our 'people'.

We are blessed with an exceptional team of teachers, classroom assistants, support staff and governors who care deeply about every child entrusted to us. Every adult in St. John's plays an important role in helping children to feel safe, valued and inspired. We work together as one team, always placing the needs of our pupils at the centre of everything we do.

The caring relationships between staff, pupils and parents are what make St. John's such a special place. We are incredibly proud of the family atmosphere that exists throughout our school. Visitors regularly comment on the warmth, happiness and sense of belonging they experience the moment they walk through our doors. That is something we treasure.

This website will give you an insight into life at St. John's, but it can never truly capture the spirit of our school. The only real way to appreciate what makes St. John's so special is to visit us, meet our children, speak to our staff and experience first-hand the welcoming atmosphere that exists every day.

I would be delighted to welcome you personally to our school and show you what makes St. John's Primary School such a wonderful place to learn, grow and belong.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I hope it gives you a flavour of our school community, and I look forward to welcoming you to St. John's in the near future.
